Stall Catchers, HCinst.org, EyesOnALZ and Catchathon.com by the Human Computation Institute (HCI) mobilize an online community of volunteers (“catchers”) who analyze research data by playing a game of annotating blood vessels. Catchers have access to information about dementia, Alzheimer’s disease (AD), reduced blood flow in the brain and its relationship to AD, and discuss the implications of their annotations on AD research. Data collected from catchers is used to advance medical disease research, and to help devise better ways for humans and computers to work together to accomplish challenging tasks. At the same time, Stall Catchers is committed to preserving the privacy of its members, and fostering a growing community of volunteer researchers.
